The New York Giants could be forced to sell once again with the way they're season is going thus far, and if they are, Kayvon Thibodeaux could be on the move.
Ravens, 49ers floated as possible trade landing spots for Giants' first-round defender originally appeared on The Sporting News
The New York Giants are probably feeling much better about their 2025 season now than they were a week ago.
In one of the more surprising results of last weekend, the Giants defeated the Los Angeles Chargers. It was the first start for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and the impressive performance should have fans excited.
However, the Giants also have to be realistic.
They play in the NFC East, which also hosts the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Commanders. Even if the team improves under Dart, it seems very unlikely a postseason run is in the cards this year.
As a result, the Giants could end up being sellers once again at the trade deadline and should have several players that interest contenders.
One of these players is edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, who is under contract for one more season after 2025.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently identified the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers as realistic landing spots for Thibodeaux. Knox suggested a 2026 2nd-round pick and/or a starting-caliber wide receiver as the compensation for Thibodeaux.
Thibodeaux was the fifth overall pick in the 2022 draft and has flashed intriguing upside. However, New York has its top two pass-rushers in Brian Burns and rookie Abdul Carter also on the roster.
Now would be the perfect time to try getting a return for Thibodeaux, who has 2.5 sacks through four games. He is set to play on the fifth-year option in 2026, and the Giants could use another pass-catcher to help support Dart.
New York could expect a reasonable return for a 24-year-old pass-rusher with one-and-a-half years left on a rookie contract.
As Knox mentioned, the Giants already have Brian Burns and Abdul Carter on the edge, so Thibodeaux is expendable. The defender is a former first-round pick who has had double-digit sacks in a season before, so he should be a hot commodity.
The Ravens are an obvious fit for Thibodeaux. Only the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans have collected fewer sacks than the Ravens so far in 2025, so Thibodeaux could inject some life into the unit.
Knox mentioned a starting-caliber wide receiver being offered, and I wonder if the Ravens would offer Rashod Bateman, who has 10 catches for 112 yards and one touchdown already this year.
The 49ers are another obvious fit for Thibodeaux. The 49ers only have one more sack as a team than the Ravens and won't have Nick Bosa for the rest of the year, so adding Thibodeaux could be huge in their NFC West title hunt.
As far as what the Niners could offer, it would be interesting to see if Brandon Aiyuk is available. The receiver has been a solid starter in the past, but he's still dealing with ACL and MCL injuries suffered last season.
