Moment of the Week
Galatasaray pulled off one of the upsets of the competition by handing Liverpool a 1-0 defeat in Istanbul, the city that played host to their most famous triumph 20 years ago.
After Victor Osimhen converted a penalty in the first half, the Turkish outfit did everything in their power to see out the victory, including employing the dark arts. Arne Slot complained about their time wasting and feigning injury, as well as VAR for overturning a late penalty call. But you gotta do what you gotta do to get the three points.
The Gala social media admin used the result as an opportunity to stick the knife in, posting “Your only miracle in Istanbul remains 2005”, and this cheeky little dig:

Player of the Week
It was yet another standout display from Michael Olise this week as Bayern Munich thrashed Pafos FC 5-1 away. Mislav Orsic may have scored the best goal of the match for the hosts, but it was Olise who dominated the game with his skill and quality.
The former Crystal Palace star slipped the ball to Harry Kane for the opener. He then bamboozled his marker with his footwork before supplying the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s first goal for the club.
Not content with his lot, Olise capitalised on a loose ball to fire in a goal of his own for his side’s fifth of the night.

The 23-year-old and Kane and have now combined in four of their eight matches. Name me a more iconic duo.
Goal of the Week
Bodo/Glimt almost came away with their first ever win over an English team in European competition on Tuesday, but had to settle for a draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Norwegian side found themselves two goals to the good thanks to a brace from Jens Petter Hauge, whose second goal was an absolute peach.
The former AC Milan player left Pedro Porro flat footed before rifling the ball through Kevin Danso’s legs and past a helpless Guglielmo Vicario. Superb.

Assist of the Week
When Kevin De Bruyne left Manchester City this summer he insisted he “wasn’t done” at the top level of the game. The Belgian proved as much on Wednesday night.
We got to see vintage De Bruyne take to the pitch as he shrugged off multiple Sporting CP players before releasing Rasmus Hojlund with a perfect pass for Napoli’s opening goal.

Sporting cancelled it out with a second-half penalty, but in the 79th minute De Bruyne supplied a great cross for Hojlund to head home the winner. That brings him up to 31 career assists in the Champions League, the fifth-most of any player in the competition’s history.

Shoutout to the entire PSV Eindhoven defence for doing their best to gift wrap Bayer Leverkusen their opening goal, with Christian Kofane gladly accepting their present.

Stat of the Week
Newcastle United secured their biggest win in Champions League history on Wednesday when they beat Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0 away.
The man of the hour around Tyneside right now is Nick Woltemade, who opened the scoring for his third goal in five games since moving from Vfb Stuttgart. In doing so, he came the first Magpies players to score on both his Premier League and Champions League debuts.
