Video: Mikey Musumeci scores quick submission to defend UFC BJJ 3 title

Carlos Henrique defended the lightweight title in the co-main event

Mikey Musumeci re-entered the bowl Thursday night to defend his UFC BJJ bantamweight championship against Keven Carrasco, and he used his trademark move to get the job done in quick fashion.

Musumeci, a four-time IBJJF world champ who hasn’t tasted defeat since 2021, made short work of a man that was 2-0 under UFC grappling banner in 2025. Musumeci started the match bouncing on one leg Karate Kid-style and immediately pulled guard. Carrasco engaged on the ground but stood back up once Musumeci went for the leg lock. When Musumeci got a hold of his leg once more time, the champion forced Carrasco to tap with a Mikey lock.

In the co-main event, Carlos Henrique returned to the arena for his first title defense of the lightweight belt against fellow Brazilian grappler Matheus Gabriel, a three-time IBJJF world champion. Henrique escaped an early armbar attempt and from that point on he was one step ahead of Gabriel, working on multiple heel hook attempts but ultimately winning a decision.

Henrique called out Samuel Nagai in his post-match interview. Nagai, the 2023 IBJJF world champion, went the distance minutes before his match to defeat Kennedy Maciel, son of legendary grappler Rubens Charles “Cobrinha”.

In one of the most anticipated matches of the night, two-time IBJJF world champ Jansen Gomes tied his personal score against three-time IBJJF world gold medalist Gustavo Batista. Down 2-3 after five matches in the gi, they went the distance after 15 minutes of close no-gi grappling action and the Checkmat talent got the nod via unanimous decision in the end.

The early portion of the card had slick first-round finishes from Jalen Fonacier and Ana Mayordomo, forcing Pedro Nakano and Shye Lilly to tap.

Andy Murasaki and Andy Varela needed more than a round to get the job done, but ultimately finished Kris Olivio and Daniel Sathler with a kimura and rear-naked choke, respectively.

The promotion announced that UFC BJJ 4 will take place Dec. 11 in Las Vegas, the week of the final UFC event of the year. Andrew Tackett will headline the card but his opponent is still yet to be defined. His brother William Tackett battles Ronaldo Junior, while Frank Mir’s daughter Bella Mir faces off with Rana Willink. Renato Canuto vs. Elijah Dorsey was the fourth match added to the line-up.
