SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Water Valley Wildcats face their biggest test yet of the 2025 regular season.

The No. 2 Water Valley Wildcats have redefined the word “dominance” through five games this season. In each of its first five games, Water Valley has won commandingly via mercy rule, outscoring its opponents by a combined margin of 277 to just 14 points allowed. The Wildcats head into week six undefeated with a 5-0 record, also coming off back-to-back shutout wins over Buena Vista and Rochelle in weeks four and five, respectively. On Friday night, Water Valley’s toughest test awaits.

The Wildcats will host the No. 10 Rankin Red Devils for its 2025 homecoming matchup. In this pivotal non-district finale, Water Valley looks to send its fans home happy with a homecoming win. Additionally, a win would keep the Wildcats unbeaten heading into their bye week before district play begins on Oct 17.

Despite the homecoming festivities, the Wildcats’ practice agenda remains the same. That is, stick to the gameplan.

“Just be disciplined and do your job,” Wildcats head coach Trey Sisco said. “Don’t do too much at the same time. We need to be physical against [Rankin].”

In addition to sticking to the gameplan, team camaraderie and chemistry are higher than ever in the players’ eyes.

“Just execute and stick to our rules, and then we’ll probably get it,” Wildcats senior defensive end and offensive guard Josiah Martinez said.

Water Valley’s homecoming matchup versus Rankin kicks off at 7 p.m. CST on Friday, Oct 3 at Diddle Young Field.
