One moment sucked the air out of the team.

The New York Jets were the masters of their downfall in the 37-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium, with penalties and a costly fumble that plagued Aaron Glenn's team.

With the Cowboys leading 10-3 in the second quarter, New York was putting together a serious drive and made it to the Dallas 23-yard line after going 69 yards in 12 plays, so at worst, a field goal was coming up for Justin Fields and the offense.

However, running back Breece Hall fumbled, and Dallas recovered, marching down the field for a touchdown to extend its lead to 17-3. What a gut-punch.

And Glenn said as much post-game, while also taking the blame for not getting his team back up mentally after the mistake.

"Highly disappointed," Glenn said. "I thought we had a really good opportunity. We were going in to score, we get the fumble, and seemed like things went downhill after that. That's something that we can't let happen. I look at myself when it comes to that because it just seemed like the wind was let out of us in that situation. I got to figure out a way to get our guys going when things like that happen."

Jets turnaround not for faint-hearted

Coming into the season, we knew that 2025 was always going to be tough sledding for Glenn and the Jets, given the mess that he and general manager Darren Mougey were walking into.

And the inconsistency we have seen through the first five weeks is proof of that.  At times, New York has been good, but other times, it has been really bad, as evidenced by the loss to Dallas.

This first year was always going to be about setting the foundation for the years ahead, but sitting at 0-5 is a brutal way to start, and we think the Jets need that circuit breaker that comes from getting a win.

It will come, we think, but the longer it goes, the bigger this dark cloud that's hanging over the organization becomes.
