Madeira team, Hartung and Fink individual runners-up in OHSAA Division II state tournament

The rain shortened the OHSAA boys and girls Division II golf tournaments to just one round. See how the locals did in their final tournaments.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association's Division II boys and girls state tournaments were shortened to one-day affairs after rain and bad weather canceled the second day of both tournaments on Oct. 7.

Both state tournaments began on Oct. 6 and were scheduled to complete following the second day on Oct. 7. The results from the end of the first rounds will be the used as the final results.

Madeira girls finish as runner-up, sophomore Hartung runner-up individual

At the end of the first day at Heatherwoode Golf Course, the Madeira Amazons had a pair of runner-up finishes.

Madeira as a team shot a 327, which was 10 shots behind Columbus Academy for second place. Columbus Academy finishes as Division II state champion for the fourth-straight season. It is also the second-straight season that Madeira finished in second to Columbus Academy.

Sophomore standout Ellie Hartung led the Amazons by shooting a 71, tying for second by one shot behind Columbus Academy's Eva Lim, who was also last year's individual champion. Senior Anica Raine was tied for 13th with a 77 and senior Grace Kellett was in 17th with an 81. Maggie Meyer and Brinkley Graves rounded out the top five for the Amazons.

Fenwick girls finish in third place

For the second time in school history, the Fenwick Falcons secured a third-place finish in the Division II state tournament.

Fenwick, who also placed third in 2023 and fourth last year, shot a 343 overall on the first day. Senior Emma Lohman led the Falcons with an 82, tying for 18th overall. MacKenzie Blankenship shot an 84 and Elizabeth Haas was right behind with an 85. Marin Weber and Sophie King also scored for Fenwick.

CHCA sophomore Sophie Fink is runner-up again, Mariemont's Soller 13th

In last season's Division II tournament, Fink was the individual runner-up after finishing four shots behind Lim. Fink picked up another state runner-up finish this year, shooting a 71 and tying with Hartung for the second-place finish.

Mariemont senior Charlotte Soller shot a 77 in her final round, tying with Rane for 13th in the state.

Roger Bacon boys place seventh at state

In their first trip to the state tournament since 1941, the Roger Bacon Spartans secured a seventh-place finish with a score of 332. Alter won the Division II crown for the fourth-straight year with a 314. Just six shots separated the top five teams in the standings.

Junior Allister Fike shot a 79 to lead the Spartans and was in a nine-way tie for 10th place overall. Sophomore Blake Rohling was tied for 32nd with an 82 and fellow sophomore Henry Fulwiler was tied for 35th with an 83. Ty Dumont's 88 and Jude Voss' 93 rounded out the tournament for the Spartans.

Division I boys state qualifiers

The Division I boys played their district round on Oct. 6 at PipeStone, with the top three teams and individuals going to the OHSAA state tournament.

St. Xavier and Anderson claimed the top two spots as the Bombers won the meet with a 287, besting the runner-up Raptors by three shots. Centerville placed third with a 294, beating out Springboro by one stroke for the final qualifying spot.

Franklin senior Aiden Standifer was the tournament medalist with a 67. St. Xavier's Peter Boylan shot a 68 and was tied for second with Lakota West's Toku Fujiwara and Troy's Mitchell Sargent. Fujiwara and Sargent were the other two individual qualifiers with Standifer to the state tournament.

The OHSAA Division I tournament will be at Firestone County Club North Course on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13.

Division I girls district tournament postponed to Oct. 8

The Division I girls district tournament was supposed to get started a PipeStone on the morning of Oct. 7, but bad weather postponed the tournament to the following day.
