Spain boss De la Fuente hits back at Barcelona media reports after Dani Olmo injury

Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has moved to vehemently defend both himself and his staff in the aftermath of the injury suffered by Dani Olmo.

This of course comes with the Barcelona midfielder having suffered a fitness setback whilst on international duty this week.

The 27-year-old was sent home from the Spanish national team setup on Saturday, after picking up a calf problem.

Barcelona, who saw Lamine Yamal struck down by an injury blow just weeks ago whilst with La Roja, were in turn left understandably frustrated.

This came amid claims that the Blaugrana had sent a medical report to the RFEF, warning that Olmo was struggling with serious muscular fatigue.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s victory over Georgia yesterday evening, such reports were in turn put to Luis de la Fuente himself.

And as alluded to above, Spain’s headmaster made use of the opportunity to launch a stern defence of his medical staff:

“Olmo was in perfect physical condition, and there was no medical report indicating any issue. He only felt slight discomfort and didn’t train all week in hopes that the situation would improve. In the end, the pain increased slightly, so we decided, for the sake of his health and safety, that he should leave the national team camp, knowing it would be difficult for him to participate on Tuesday. If there had been the slightest possibility, or if we were certain he could play without risks, he would have stayed with the team.”
