Benedictine back to state title game, first since 2022

Benedictine Military school advanced to the GHSA Class AAAA State Championship for the first time since 2022.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Benedictine Military school advanced to the GHSA Class AAAA State Championship for the first time since 2022.

The Cadets beat Marist 28-20 in the semifinals to advance to the title game Friday.

In 2022, they beat Cedartown in a 14-13 battle to be crowned state champions.

They’re looking for another ring this season, with plenty of Division I talent from their seniors.

Next season, senior quarterback Steven Cannon and edge rusher LaDamion Guyton are headed to Texas Tech, and senior offensive lineman Carlton Hall will play at Liberty University.

The team said everyone is focused on finishing the season strong.

“They’re excited, confident, and feel really good about who they are,” said Head Coach Danny Britt. “The confidence comes from the work and everything they’ve put in since last February.”

Cannon said, “We have to put everything out there to have a chance. A lot is on the line, and I think all of us understand that.”

Benedictine will take on Creekside in the GHSA Class AAAA State Championship on Monday, Dec. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
