WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Hutchinson Blue Dragons are off to the national championship. The team boarded the bus early Monday morning for a special send-off from the city.
Hutchinson CC will face Iowa Western on Wednesday with kickoff set for 6 p.m. It’ll be a rematch from last year’s national championship, where Hutchinson took home the title by just a five-point margin.
Eyeing a repeat against a team that’s historically played them pretty well, head football coach Drew Dallas and his players are prepping for quite the contest come Wednesday.
“I’ve never got the chance to play for a state title in high school, so playing for a national championship means so much to me. It’s the biggest game of my entire life. I’ve never been more happy to play football,” offensive lineman Augustus Thuston said.
“This means everything. We work really hard for it, and I feel like we’re in the best place to do it, so this is how it should be,” defensive back Rayshawn Reynolds said.
“Well, it’s pretty special. I mean, it’s what we set out to do at the beginning of the year, and it’s exciting for our football team. We want to make sure, though, we go down to play to the best of our ability and try to win the whole thing. We’re really looking forward to this opportunity, and we’re proud of the guys for what they’ve done up to this point,” Dallas said.
The Blue Dragons will face Iowa Western from Bain-Schaffer Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, Texas, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
