Do they bring players in under a caretaker manager? Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world and a lot of players around the world still think that. If you can put any sort of [run of] results together, three or four victories over the next six games, you're right in the mix for Champions League football again, and then you go and recruit again in the summer.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast it is vital Manchester United strengthen during the January transfer window:
"I don't think the squad is strong enough. They need to bring more players in. Do they bring players in under a caretaker manager?
"I still think it has a big pull. Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world and a lot of players around the world still think that.
"I also look at the league table and there's an opportunity. If you can put any sort of [run of] results together, three or four victories over the next six games, you're right in the mix for Champions League football again, and then you go and recruit again in the summer.
"If you don't recruit in January, you maybe fall back again and it's another season or 18 months before you can compete again.
"This season seems wide open for any team to finish in the Champions League [qualification spots].
"I'm even thinking the powers that be - they must be thinking they have to strengthen because they have an opportunity to get back to Champions League football, be it with a caretaker manager or whatever it is.
"I think they need to strengthen again to give themselves the chance."
