Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has full confidence in rookie guard Tate Ratledge heading into the 2025 NFL season.

Ratledge, who has a second-round pick in April's draft, is slated to be Detroit's starting right guard this year. The Georgia product has had to earn that role in camp, and Campbell praised Ratledge's improvement throughout camp.

"Tate Ratledge, I thought looked like a starting NFL guard yesterday, which fires me up," Campbell said via Tim Twentyman of Lions.com. "So, it's early, that's step one, but the kid's getting better."

Though he has been impressive in camp, Ratledge has big shoes to fill in Detroit. Kevin Zeitler had an excellent 2024 campaign as the team's starting right guard, but he left for the Tennessee Titans in free agency.

However, Ratledge has the potential to be even better than Zeitler and form a dominant duo on the right side of the offensive line with All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell.

During his college career at Georgia, Ratledge allowed just two sacks and was one of the most complete offensive linemen in the nation. He posted a pass-blocking grade of over 87 in 2022 and 2023, and never allowed more than seven pressures in a single season.

The 24-year-old should immediately provide adequate play on the interior of the Lions' offensive line, and has the chance to establish himself as a long-term piece of the unit.
