Costello van Steenis defends middleweight title in main event for first PFL card in Spain

PFL lands in Madrid, Spain for the first time with a card scheduled for March 20

PFL middleweight champion Costello van Steenis is set to defend his title for the first time when he faces Fabian Edwards in a rematch headed to Madrid, Spain at the Palacio Vistalegre on March 20.

PFL announced the new matchup on Friday with the promotion landing in Spain for the first time in 2026.

The fight serves as van Steenis’ first title defense after he pulled of a stunning upset over former Bellator champion Johnny Eblen back in July. Late in the final round, van Steenis managed to take Eblen’s back and lock on a fight-ending rear-naked choke with just seven seconds left on the clock.

Rather than running it back for an immediate rematch, PFL is giving Edwards his chance at winning gold after he went on a remarkable run through the 2025 middleweight tournament, which he capped off with a brutal head-kick knockout over Dalton Rosta.

Edwards is also looking for revenge in March after the fell to van Steenis by split decision back in 2020.

PFL is expected to announce more fights for the van Steenis vs. Edwards card in the near future.
